2. drag it and drop into search input field
3. no reaction to drop event

Do you know what event is fired when that happens? It sounds like you might want to add listener and call fnFilter .

I added my own event listener, but i think it should be implemented in datatables

Its the first request that I've had for this particular feature, but I would agree that it is something that should be looked at for a future release. I've added this feature to my 'to-do' list, and if anyone else wants this feature to be added, please add a note in this thread :-)
