Custom Sorting

I am new for data tables.. I don't know about custom sorting..Any one help to find the following custom sorting..
This field is a Date field..
My data's are

Thu Aug 16, 2012
Fri Aug 17,2012
Tue Jul 31,2012

I want to sorting the data in ascending and descending manner..

My result in Ascending order

Tue Jul 31,2012
Thu Aug 16, 2012
Fri Aug 17,2012

My result in descending order
Fri Aug 17,2012
Thu Aug 16, 2012
Tue Jul 31,2012

Any one help to get the answer?

Thanks allan..But (http://datatables.net/plug-ins/sorting) this plugins used for only in Date (dd . mm[ . YYYY]),Date (dd/mm/YYY hh:ii:ss) and Date (dd/mm/YY) plugins..i am using date plugins for my data's its not working.. Can i use standard plugins or i will goto write any custom plugins for my data format?
