Not built in. However, it is quite possible to use a jQuery UI modal (or similar) as part of a display controller, rather than the built in methods. There is a tutorial on display controllers here: https://editor.datatables.net/tutorials/display_controllers

Did you follow the tutorial on creating display controllers? What did you end up with for jQuery UI modal integration (assuming you used that)?
