Installation Instructions?

I hunted around but didn't find any installation instructions.

It's not so much that I can't figure out what to put into my installation, but that putting some parts of the distribution into a live installation wouldn't be particularly smart.

The demo code and the demo code for all the extras would also be included in a naive "unzip into js directory" type approach.

Anyone knowing the directory structure could, theoretically run the unit tests, for example, by typing in the URL. I'm not sure what other nastiness could be engineered by a malicious hacker, but I wouldn't want to find out the hard way.

Perhaps just a quick note, list of files, or maybe even a script for copying the files needed to run, and only the files needed to run, would be in order.

Comments?

Thanks,

Yeah with all this amazing documentation you would think there would be an install doc. Trying to figure out which files are required is a pain in the ass and makes me not want to use this product.

Have a look at this blog post: http://datatables.net/blog/Getting_started_with_DataTables%3A_First_steps .

Also if you want to give DataTables a quick go, then everything you need is available on the Microsoft CDN: http://datatables.net/blog/Microsoft_CDN .

The "Getting started" post I plan to make into a bit of a series and integrate it with the rest of the documentation on the site. Its just a case of getting the time to do it!

How do I install extras ?

Into the "extras" directory in DataTables. If you download the DataTables zip package, then all of the supported extras are already there (with the exception of Editor, since it is commercial software - Editor instructions are here: http://editor.datatables.net/tutorials/installing ).
