State saving + multiple column sort not working?

Even in the state saving example, multiple column sort is not saved. To sort with multiple columns, just hold the shift key and click the column headers. Upon refresh, however, only the first column sort is preserved, and the rest are lost.

Is this a known issue? Are there any decent workarounds? I couldn't find any other references to this behavior in the forums.
