What happened with: https://datatables.net/forums/discussion/24934/is-it-possible-to-load-the-config-of-datatables-async ?
As localStorage can be wiped anytime by the browser or the user I want to opt with an server side solution. But the async: false prevents from multiple tables loading in parallel, resulting in a bad user exprerience. Any solutions?

This is still the case - there is currently no option to async load state. I'm going to be addressing that in the next major version of DataTables, but haven't had the time to implement that aspect yet I'm afraid.
