Internet Explorer workaround - swf load

I think Table tools is great, and I do most of my initial dev work in Chrome and FF. I've found that initial testing on IE (I start with 8) usually brings up some issues.
For one, the .swf used for some functions doesn't ever load on my system (Vista w/ IE8). It asks for permission to install Flash, but never seems to work. All I end up with is a disabled graphical red X instead of the buttons that use flash. Any suggestions? Right now, I just disable those buttons with an [ if IE ].
