I am having problems getting the example .sln file to work properly.
I have successfully added my DB connection which is sql server.
However, I keep getting code errors in query.cs which I have not modified.
anyone else had this problem in the past or currently and could offer any help?
Thanks,

I suspect you are using Visual Studio 2013 or earlier and having installed the C#6 compiler. The DataTables.dll code uses C#6 features, so it wouldn't compile with the C#5 compiler that VS2013 comes with.
You can install the new compiler using the Microsoft Compilers NuGet.

Thank you! that fixed my compile issues.
