Can I Create a Progress Bar or similar?

A colleague of mine is using DataTables to display and sort a table of postal codes. the table contains around 5000 records. When the user changes the sort column or sequence, there is a significant delay while the table is re-sorted. Is there some way to display a progress bar or "Please wait while I sort your table" type message while the sort takes place? This is all happening on the client.

Yes, well I'm a duffer, aren't I? It's all in the "processing" functionality built in to Datatables already. Works beautifully.
