can it use string index ?

Maybe the table can use string index for data column, for exmple "aTargets":[ "id" ]. I think it more convenient.

When using a string in aTargets DataTables will match again any column which has that class: http://datatables.net/usage/columns . I'm not sure how else this could be done - possibly matching on the name, but that seems less flexible.
