Display Loading Overlay

I've been using dt for a while now with outstanding results, but being more "plumber" than "landscaper" sometimes UI issues present quite a challenge. At this point, after a bit of searching, I cannot seem to figure out how to get a loading overlay to show while the dataTable fn runs. Normally, the load time isn't an issue - but esp. in IE - it takes 5-15 seconds for the function to run on this table. During that time, the user will see either the header rows or simply a white screen. I can make this work for the whole page, but would rather it just happen in the div containing the data table - suggestions? (other than buy a jQuery UI book :) )
