Move Filters out of or and put elsewhere on page?

My page is split into 2 sections. The left-side will contain options in which to filter the results of the datatable, which is shown in the center of my page. Is it possible to put the filters in the left column and have them filter the center column? These are different tables. Thanks.

It certainly is, you just need to create your filtering inputs where you want them and then bind fnFilter ( http://datatables.net/api#fnFilter ) as required (keypress, change etc).
