formatting: Totals or table data?

Hi Everybody,
i tried everything before writing this post. i'm actually stuck.
my problem is this: if i format the tables data (numbers with formatting mask ##,###.## , using an external script), then, i cannot get the total amount, since Datatables considers those tables data as text strings (NaN).
if i don't format the tables data, then i can format the totals.
is there a way to get both, totals and tables data, formatted with this external script?
i use ver. 1.8.1

They are text string - that's why :-). If you what DataTables to treat them as numbers, you would need to use a sorting plugin such as this one: http://datatables.net/plug-ins/sorting#formatted_numbers
