Posting a bug

I have used datatables multiple times across multiple versions - but never created a datatables.net account.
So I have one now. [waves]. hi.

Can we submit bugs?
it looks like there are bug reports and forums. The guidance seems inconsistent and my own take on it is that the expected / preferred path is to create a forum post with as much context as possible without useless excess. Presumably if it gets traction, someone with more permissions will then create the bug. Is this true?

Exactly that please. A forum post with a description and a link to a test case showing the issue will get things started.

We have an internal bug database we use, but not a public one.

It looks like the bug database I was referencing is merely the forum posts that are given the category of "Bug report". And I don't seem to be able to assign a category to my own forum post.

So then: is that something I should eventually be able to do?

Anyone who has purchased an item from us can post in any category (minus the two priority support ones, which require a purchase of a support package). All other users can post in the "Free community support" category.
