Exporting data with icons to Excel

I have a table with some fontawesome icons.
When I export it to excel, i'd like it to show a value instead.
I found this similar post which references an example that's not available anymore.

The status column is the one I am referring to

The examples are still there. The http://live.datatables.net/ examples use HTTP but your browser may be changing the URL to use HTTPS. Change the URL to HTTP. In addition to the thread you linked to take a look at these examples for formatting the export output:

The first one is along the lines of the thread you linked.
