How can the standard edit form be replaced with a custom form?

It isn't possible at this time I'm sorry to say. We don't have any near term plans for it either. Long term, you'll be able to layout the form in CloudTables, but that is likely years away...

To be clear, it is possible in the regular DataTables?

What about the child information (below the rows)

I saw this which is why I wondered how to change it

Oh! That's one of Colin's clever examples that uses the Editor API, which I had (as you'll have realised) completely forgotten about! Yes, you could use the technique shown there. To change, you'd need to change the markup and CSS to suit your needs.

Where do I find the markup/cc in CloudTables?

You don't - it would need to be in place on your page already, similar to the example you linked to. If you don't have access to the page to write markup (e.g. you are using a site builder web-site) then I'm afraid this approach wouldn't work with CloudTables.

So basically if I embed in WP I would add the markup/css to my Code Snippets plugin or to the respective theme

I hven't tried it, but yes, I expect that would make it possible.
