I found someone having a similar issue. - https://datatables.net/forums/discussion/72218

I have updated to the latest CDN and I am still seeing the formatting as illustrated in the thread.

    This example doesn't have the extra white space. Can you provide a link to your page or a test case replicating the issue?

    Are you using a styling framework? The thread you linked to indicates the OP was using Bootstrap 4.

    Hi Kevin,
    I too am using Bootstrap 4

    Im not sure what I did last night, but now I have the opposite problem.
    The window below my visibility buttons is too short.
