Adding your own buttons.

I am interested in adding my own print function. I tried creating a button using the tabletools css (without loading tabletools) but that did not work. I tried adding just a simple button without any css but even that button did not work. Using this line on a blank page works of course, but once i add it to a page with datatables the button does not do anything.

I am not very proficient and any help would be greatly appreciated.
